About Shana

Even as a young teenager, I knew I wanted to pursue a career working with families and children to make a positive influence in this world. Now, as a parent and a professionally licensed speech language pathologist and life coach with twenty years of experience, I know I made the absolute right decision. I feel truly blessed to do what I do every day.

After completing a bachelors degree in communications arts and sciences from Queens College, I immediately pursued a master’s program in Speech Pathology at Queens College which I completed in 1996. With my master’s degree in hand, I started on the path toward working with families and their children and have happily done so for the last twenty years.

During those years, I realized that therapy (of any kind) doesn’t work without family involvement. That includes parents being on the same page with each other and feeling fulfilled independently!! Families were breaking down and unraveling right before my eyes. It was heartbreaking to witness the despair and frustration. I discovered that when I began to spend ‘equal’ amount of time working with the parents, remarkable changes began to happen at an exponential rate. Not only with the children I was working with, but the family dynamic as a whole. And it wasn’t just families with children with disabilities that were affected.

I felt like something was missing in my education and I needed to find a way to become more effective, for all and any family... That brought me going back to school to become a Board Certified Life Coach.

On a personal note, I am the very proud mother of my son, Aiden, who was born in 1997. As a single mother since he was two, he has taught me more about parenting, balancing work and family that I ever could have learned in school. Most importantly, he has taught me to keep fun at the top of the priority list. He has been and continues to be my angel. I was fortunate to have two loving parents, who have always been open about relationship struggles, maintaining family values, and following our personal dreams with me and my three siblings.

I am passionate about living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Over the last 15 years, I have earned two first degree black belts, one in Karate and one in Kung Fu. I have continued to maintain my martial arts by studying a variety of styles including, weaponry, Jiu Jitsu, boxing and Krav Maga. I love to travel! There is nothing like actually experiencing other cultures, dynamics and seeing the beauty this world has to offer. My most memorable travel experience to date was when I climbed and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in August 2012.
